The course, titled, "Recognizing and Responding to Suicide Risk: Essential Skills for Clinicians," taught 50 community mental health practitioners to properly evaluate suicide risk, how to provide evidence-based suicide intervention and help reduce suicide in their communities. Kansas experienced a 30% increase in completed suicides from 2011 to 2012 and similar trends have been noted in other rural communities.
